Jackson County Jail is at 555 General Jackson Dr, Jefferson, Georgia. Visitor parking is available on-site.

Reception Checkin

  • Bring a photo ID if you’re 16 or older - visitors age 16 and above must present proper photo identification at check-in.
  • Use an accepted ID - a state-issued identification card, a military ID, or a passport are specifically listed as acceptable.
  • If you’re using something else, it has to be approved - other forms of identification may be accepted if the Watch Commander approves them.
  • No ID, no visit - visitors will not be allowed to visit without proper identification.

At the reception desk, staff will check you in and verify your information. You'll provide your name and address, state your relationship to the inmate, and give the inmate's name. The clerk also logs the date and your arrival and departure times.

After check-in, the reception clerk contacts Tower Control with the inmate's name and your visitor type - family, attorney, or law enforcement. Tower Control then notifies the officer assigned to that housing unit. Reception will direct you to the right visitation area and station.

Denial Reasons

  • Missing or improper ID - if you can’t present proper identification, you won’t be allowed to visit.
  • Appearing under the influence - visitors who appear to be under the influence of intoxicants will not be permitted to visit.
  • Unruly behavior - if you conduct yourself in an unruly manner, staff can deny the visit.
  • Tank tops
  • Halter tops
  • Short skirts
  • Shorts
  • Swimwear
  • See-through clothing
  • Sleepwear
  • Any other clothing deemed unacceptable - the Watch Commander has final authority on what counts as appropriate dress.

Refusing a search means no visit. If staff require a search - electronic device scan, pat-down, or both - and you decline, your visit will be denied. The incident gets logged and the Watch Commander is notified.

A denial for refusing a search isn't just verbal. The jail documents the incident in the visitation log and notifies the Watch Commander.

  1. Ask why you were denied - whether it’s ID, dress, or a search issue, get the reason clearly so you know what needs to change.
  2. Fix what you can right away - if the problem is improper ID or clothing the Watch Commander deems unacceptable, correct it before trying again.
  3. Decide whether to reattempt or leave - if the denial is tied to refusing a required search, the visit will be denied and logged, so follow staff direction on what happens next.
