Visiting With Children at Jackson County Jail: Rules, Ages, and Checklist

Not every adult in custody at Jackson County Jail is eligible for juvenile visits. The AIC must have been incarcerated for 30 or more days, or sentenced to 30 or more days, before a child can visit.

Meeting the 30-day requirement isn't enough on its own - the relationship matters too. The jail only permits juvenile visits when the child is the AIC's legal child or under the AIC's legal guardianship.

No one under age 10 is permitted to visit. Period. If your child is 9 - even with a parent present - you'll need to make other arrangements.

Kids who meet the age requirement still can't come alone. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. That means children ages 10–17 can visit only when a parent or legal guardian brings them and stays for the entire visit.

Jackson County Jail requires a legal relationship for juvenile visits: the child must be the AIC's legal child or under the AIC's legal guardianship. Without that legal connection, the juvenile won't be approved.

Before you plan a trip, confirm the child is on the AIC's Active Visitor List. Each AIC can list up to 10 people who are approved to visit, and children count toward that limit. If the child isn't on the list, you won't get in.

Need to add a child or swap names? Plan ahead. Only the AIC can update the Active Visitor List through official correspondence - family members can't make changes at the front desk on visit day.

Quick Checklist

  • Confirm the AIC qualifies for juvenile visits (incarcerated 30+ days or sentenced 30+ days).
  • Confirm the AIC has you and the child listed on their Active Visitor List (the list is limited to 10 people total, and children count toward that 10).
  • If the child isn’t listed yet, have the AIC request the change through official correspondence (family can’t change the list in person).
  • Bring photo ID for every adult attending the visit.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled visit time, or the visit will be cancelled.

Reminder: No one under age 10 is permitted to visit. Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
