TDCJ limits who can add money to an inmate's trust fund. As of September 1, 2020, only people on the inmate's approved visitor list or Inmate Telephone List are permitted to make deposits. If this is your first time sending money, confirm with your loved one that you're on one of those lists before you send anything. Deposits from unapproved senders can be rejected.

Note: Cash and personal checks are not accepted for inmate trust fund deposits. If you send either one, it will be returned to you.

Sending a money order or cashier's check? TDCJ requires a deposit slip to go with it. Your loved one can get that slip and pass it along to you. Include it when you mail the payment. Without the deposit slip, processing can be delayed or the deposit may not go through as intended.

Don't have the inmate's TDCJ number? You can look it up by calling (936) 295-6371 or (800) 535-0283. Get that number before you try to send funds.

  1. Confirm you’re an approved sender: You must be on the inmate’s approved visitor list or on the Inmate Telephone List to deposit money.
  2. Get the deposit slip from the inmate: Money orders and cashier’s checks have to be accompanied by a deposit slip the inmate can provide.
  3. Choose the right payment type: Use a money order or cashier’s check for this method.
  4. Have the TDCJ number ready: If you don’t know it, call (936) 295-6371 or (800) 535-0283 to get the correct number before you send anything.
  5. Send the payment with the deposit slip: Make sure the deposit slip is included with the money order or cashier’s check so the deposit can be applied correctly.
