What changed about mail for Jefferson County inmates (effective June 16, 2025)
Sending personal mail to someone in Jefferson County custody? The process changed on June 16, 2025. Here's what's different, what gets accepted (and what doesn't), and how to format your mail so it actually arrives.
Starting June 16, 2025, personal mail no longer goes directly to Jefferson County inmates. Instead, letters are routed through the Securus Digital Mail Center, scanned, and delivered digitally. Your recipient won't get the original paper - they'll see a digital copy.
The Digital Mail Center accepts standard letters and photos (within size limits). Your message gets scanned and delivered digitally - the inmate won't receive your original envelope or paper.
- ✓ Packages (these are not accepted through the Digital Mail Center)
- ✓ Certified mail
- ✓ Checks
- ✓ Money orders
Stick to standard letter size. Anything larger than 8.5" x 11" won't be accepted for scanning. Photos and drawings need to fit on or within an 8.5" x 11" page to make it through.
Legal mail works differently. Send it directly to the facility using the jail's legal-mail process - not to the Securus Digital Mail Center. Legal mail sent to the Securus address gets returned unopened.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Write a clear return address on the outside of the envelope
- ✓ Address it with the inmate’s full name and SPN (if you have it)
- ✓ Include the facility name as part of the address information
- ✓ Only send letter-style personal mail and photos that fit within the allowed size limits
- ✓ Don’t include prohibited items (like checks, money orders, certified mail, or package contents), since they won’t be accepted through the Digital Mail Center
Warning: Don't send checks, money orders, certified mail, or packages to the Securus Digital Mail Center. For legal mail, use the jail's separate legal-mail process - anything legal sent to the Securus address comes back unopened.
