Where to Send Mail to Someone in Jefferson County Jail (Why There Are Two Addresses)

Jefferson County uses MailGuard for most personal mail, which means you'll see two different mailing addresses. The right one depends on what you're sending—regular letters and cards go to one place, while legal mail, books, and money orders go somewhere else.

Where to Send Mail to Someone in Jefferson County Jail (Why There Are Two Addresses)

Jefferson County contracts with Smart Communications to run MailGuard electronic mail services at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. What does that mean for you? Most personal mail goes to a dedicated processing center instead of directly to the jail.

MailGuard scans incoming mail and makes it available for inmates to view on kiosks inside the facility. That scanning step is why there are two addresses: one for regular personal mail that gets digitized, and a separate facility address for items that need to go directly to the jail.

For regular personal mail, send it to the MailGuard processing center. Since August 1, 2019, all regular inmate postal mail must be addressed exactly like this: JSCO-SCH Inmate Name – Inmate ID c/o Mail Processing Center P.O. Box 9154 Seminole, FL 33775-9145. Include the inmate's name and booking/ID number on the envelope or postcard so it gets posted to the right account.

  • Write the inmate’s full name clearly on the outside of the envelope or postcard
  • Include the inmate’s booking/ID number clearly on the outside so it posts to the correct MailGuard account
  • Use the required MailGuard format: “JSCO-SCH Inmate Name – Inmate ID c/o Mail Processing Center P.O. Box 9154 Seminole, FL 33775-9145”

The MailGuard address handles regular personal mail - postcards, letters, greeting cards, and similar items. These get scanned and made available for the inmate to view on kiosks. The physical originals aren't delivered inside the facility.

Legal mail works differently. Send it to the facility's street address - not the MailGuard processing center: Jefferson County Correctional Facility, Inmate Name – Inmate ID, 5030 Hwy 69 South, Beaumont, TX 77705.

Books also go to the facility street address, but the source matters. Jefferson County only accepts books shipped directly from a book publishing company to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility address in Beaumont.

Money orders go to the facility street address too: 5030 Hwy 69 South, Beaumont, TX 77705. Don't send them to the MailGuard processing center - Jefferson County groups money orders with items that must go directly to the facility.

Once your regular mail reaches the MailGuard processing center, it gets scanned. The inmate views it through kiosks inside the facility - that's how MailGuard delivers personal mail.

After release, former inmates can log in at https://smartjailmail.com using their inmate number and password to download their photos, messages, and postal mail for free. Handy if they want copies of what was sent while they were in custody.

Practical Tips

  • For regular letters/cards, use the MailGuard processing address: “JSCO-SCH Inmate Name – Inmate ID c/o Mail Processing Center P.O. Box 9154 Seminole, FL 33775-9145”
  • Print the inmate’s name clearly on the outside of the envelope or postcard
  • Print the inmate’s booking/ID number clearly on the outside so it posts to the correct MailGuard account

Sending something other than regular personal mail? Double-check the address first. Books must ship directly from a publisher to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility address, and money orders also go to the facility street address in Beaumont. Neither should go to the MailGuard processing center.
