Can You Send Books and Magazines to Jefferson Parish Jail? Here's What's Allowed
Jefferson Parish Correctional Center allows paperback books and approved magazines, but how they're shipped matters. Books and periodicals must be purchased and sent directly from a publisher or bookstore. If you buy something yourself and try to mail it in, or send it through a third party that isn't a publisher or bookstore, it will likely be rejected.
Quick limit check: Each inmate can receive a maximum of 4 books. If you're planning to send more than one package, confirm what they already have so you don't go over the limit.
The book limit at Jefferson Parish Correctional Center is four per inmate. If you've already sent books recently, or other family members are sending them too, check before placing another order. Going over the limit means the shipment gets turned away.
Newspapers are not allowed at Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. The jail treats newsprint as a serious fire hazard, so any newsprint media, including a regular daily paper, will be rejected.
Photos
- ✓ Do not send Polaroid (instant) photos.
- ✓ Do not send photos that contain provocative or lewd images.
- ✓ If a picture is not allowed, it will be disposed of.
Heads up: Instant-format photos and anything that could be considered sexually explicit are common reasons pictures get rejected. Jefferson Parish Correctional Center disposes of disallowed pictures rather than returning them, so double-check your prints before mailing.
