Sending money to someone at Jester 3: who can deposit and how
Sending money to someone at the Jester 3 Unit is straightforward once you know the two things that trip people up: who's allowed to deposit, and what details you need to include. Here's how to avoid delays and get your deposit accepted.
Since September 1, 2020, only people on the inmate's approved visitor list or Inmate Telephone List can deposit money into their trust account. Not on either list? Your deposit won't go through. Confirm your status before sending anything. If you're planning to deposit during a visit, double-check that your information matches what the unit has on file - this rule exists for verification and security purposes.
Tip: Call Jester 3 before you travel to confirm the inmate is still assigned there and that visitation hasn't been canceled.
Accepted Methods
- ✓ Money order or cashier’s check made payable to “Inmate Trust Fund for Offender Name and Number”
- ✓ Monthly checking account debit (ACH) - a free TDCJ service that automatically debits a set amount once each month and deposits it to a specified offender
No matter which deposit method you use, include the sender’s name and address. That information is required for deposits to an offender’s account, and leaving it off can slow down processing or cause the deposit to be rejected.
- Confirm you’re eligible to send funds - you must be on the inmate’s approved visitor list or on the inmate’s Inmate Telephone List (this has been required since Sept. 1, 2020).
- Check your status before you send money - if you’re not sure you’re on one of those lists, confirm first so you don’t mail or submit a deposit that can’t be accepted.
- Call before you travel for any in-person plan - contact Jester 3 to confirm the inmate is assigned there and that visitation hasn’t been canceled before you make the trip.
