How to Register Your Phone to Receive Calls from an Inmate at Jim Rudd Unit
To receive calls from someone at the Jim Rudd Unit, you'll need two things: the inmate's TDCJ ID number and a phone number you can register as yours. During enrollment, you'll confirm you own the number - so use one that's actually listed in your name.
You also have to be at least 18 years old to register a phone number to receive these calls.
Registration happens online through the Texas Inmate Telephone Friends & Family Enrollment page. You'll need to complete this before any calls can come through. Enter the phone number you want to receive calls on and the inmate's TDCJ ID number, then follow the prompts to finish.
Key Rules
- ✓ Confirm you are the registered owner of the telephone number.
- ✓ Confirm you agree to allow the inmate to call that telephone number.
- ✓ Confirm you are at least 18 years old.
- ✓ Agree you will not forward calls, make three-way calls, or use a speakerphone on calls received from the inmate.
Phone service at the unit runs from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. That said, unit conditions can affect availability - so don't be surprised if call access shifts on a given day.
Calls are capped at 30 minutes each. You'll hear a one-minute warning before the line disconnects. The good news? Inmates have unlimited minutes per month, so the only real limit is that 30-minute cutoff per call.
Note: All calls are subject to monitoring and recording, except calls to the attorney of record.
Having trouble enrolling? Double-check that you're on the Texas Inmate Telephone Friends & Family Enrollment page and that you entered the inmate's TDCJ ID number correctly. Even a small typo can block registration - and calls won't come through until enrollment is complete.
If you're unsure when calls should come in - or a routine suddenly changes - call the Jim Rudd Unit directly. Unit conditions can shift availability, and a quick check saves a lot of frustration.
