How to Get Approved to Visit Someone at John Lilley Center
Getting approved to visit at John H. Lilley Correctional Center comes down to the right ODOC form, the right attachments, and sending everything to the right place. Here's how it works—and what to expect while you wait.
To get on someone's approved visiting list, fill out the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Visitor Request Form (DOC 030118B). ODOC uses this form to review your information and decide whether to add you as an approved visitor. First-time visitor? Don't rush through it. Read the form carefully and complete every section - missing details slow things down, and incorrect information can lead to a denial.
ID and Required Fields
- ✓ Copy of the front of your driver’s license or state-issued ID
- ✓ Copy of the back of your driver’s license or state-issued ID
- ✓ If you’re bringing a minor, documentation to verify guardianship (for example, birth certificates or court/adoption papers)
- ✓ If the child is 18 or older, they must submit their own visiting application to be eligible to visit
Paper visitation application forms are accepted at ODOC headquarters, and they must be addressed to the Visitation Unit - not to the inmate. If you send the form to the incarcerated person instead, it can be rejected. Mail the completed form (with your required ID copies) to: Oklahoma Department of Corrections Attn: Visitation Unit P.O. Box 11400 Oklahoma City, OK 73136-0400
If you’re 18 or older, expect a background check as part of the approval process. This screening is required before you can be approved to visit.
Approval isn't instant - the process can take up to eight weeks. Here's how notification works: ODOC doesn't contact you directly. Instead, the inmate gets notified when the background check and review are complete. They'll let you know you're approved and share your scheduled visiting date and time.
Warning: If you falsify or purposely leave out information on the Visitor Request Form, you can be denied visitation privileges and required to wait 90 days before you can reapply.
Once ODOC finishes the review, the inmate will be notified - and they'll pass the news along to you. They'll also share the scheduled date and time for your visit. Planning travel, childcare, or time off? Build in that waiting period. Don't assume you're approved until the inmate confirms it. If anything about the schedule or next steps seems unclear, I recommend checking with facility staff before you show up.
Note: Before visitation, facility staff will conduct pat searches on all inmates and visitors. It’s a normal part of the check-in process, so plan a little extra time and expect screening.
