Can You Call an Inmate at JPCC? Incoming Calls, Voicemail, and Three-Way Rules

Trying to reach someone at JPCC? Here's the key thing: you can't call directly into the facility to speak with an inmate. All contact happens through the jail's inmate phone system, with a limited voicemail option for approved inmates.

Inmates at JPCC cannot receive incoming calls. You can't call the jail and ask to be connected to your loved one, even in an emergency. There's one narrow exception: voicemail messages for approved inmates. If your person is approved for voicemail, you can leave a message through the system. But this isn't a live call that rings through to them.

Note: The Inmate Telephone and Visitation service at Jefferson Parish (JPCC) is provided by Ally Telecom Group. That is the system handling calling and related communication options.

Phone access starts after booking is completed. Waiting for that first call? There can be a gap while booking is processed, even if they arrived at the jail hours earlier.

JPCC has telephones for private use in each housing area. Your loved one places calls from their housing unit using the inmate phone system. They won't receive calls directly from the outside.

JPCC prohibits three-way calls. A three-way call is any setup where you try to add a third person to the call, or conference people together so the inmate is effectively speaking to more than one outside line at once.

Keep it simple: one inmate, one outside person per call. Don't patch in someone else, merge calls, or put the inmate on speakerphone with another relative in a way that mimics a conference call. If someone else needs to talk, have the inmate call that person directly. Or share the information on your end after the call ends.

Inmate calls at JPCC (local, long distance, and international) are billed by the minute with no connection fees. If you're budgeting or trying to stretch account funds, focus on the per-minute rate rather than worrying about a one-time pickup charge.

Note: JPCC’s published rules mention voicemail only for “approved inmates,” but they do not spell out the approval process. The rules also do not list what happens if a three-way call is attempted, beyond stating that it is prohibited.
