Virtual Attorney Visits (VAV) at Kegan ISF: What Families Should Know About Attorneys’ Confidential Virtual Visits

Virtual Attorney Visits (VAV) at Kegan ISF use Zoom for confidential attorney–client conversations. The goal is better access to legal help - attorneys get a timely, efficient way to meet when an in-person visit isn't possible. VAV doesn't replace face-to-face legal meetings. It's an alternative.

Who May Use

  • Legal representatives (attorneys)
  • Legal assistants
  • Interpreters
  • Family and friends are not permitted to participate in VAV sessions

Need an interpreter? VAV can still work. Interpreters are allowed to participate, and attorneys can bring in outside interpretation services during the call. Everyone on the session must fall into authorized categories, though - this isn't a way for family or friends to sit in on a legal visit.

Before a VAV meeting at Kegan ISF, the legal representative must show proper identification - typically a state bar card or other proof of bar membership. If your loved one's attorney is new to VAV, flag this early so the ID step doesn't delay things.

For scheduling or VAV questions, Kegan ISF uses this contact email: ICELegalDocs@lasallecorrections.com. Want to help move things along? Share that email with your loved one's attorney or their staff.

No recording: Legal representatives and their staff are not allowed to video- or audio-record any virtual or in-person visit, or any call, with detained people at Kegan ISF. Violations can lead to suspension or permanent loss of VAV privileges.

During VAV sessions, Kegan ISF stations a visitation officer outside the confidential room for safety and security. If your loved one mentions an officer nearby, that's normal - it's how the facility runs these sessions.

The video-visitation system at Kegan ISF isn't only for attorney visits. It may also handle USCIS interviews, forensic medical evaluations, or special visitation like child welfare meetings. This means VAV time slots can be shared with other needs, and scheduling depends on available space and equipment.

Virtual Attorney Visits (VAV) at Kegan ISF: What Families Should Know About Attorneys’ Confidential Virtual Visits
  1. Tell the attorney VAV uses Zoom - VAV is a confidential Zoom-based option at Kegan ISF and can be used as an alternative to meeting in person.
  2. Have bar ID ready ahead of time - the attorney must show a bar card (or other proof of bar membership) before the scheduled VAV meeting.
  3. Use the facility’s VAV contact email - for scheduling or questions, share ICELegalDocs@lasallecorrections.com with the attorney or their staff.
  4. Set expectations about the setup - a visitation officer is stationed outside the confidential room for safety and security during VAV.

Reminder: VAV is for legal representatives, legal assistants, and interpreters only - family and friends can’t join. Recording (audio or video) during any visit or call is prohibited and can cost the attorney VAV access.
