Visitation

Visiting at Kennebec County Correctional Facility takes some planning, but the rules are straightforward once you know them. Non-contact visits must be scheduled by phone on Mondays from 8:00–12:00 (ext. 1109). Visiting slots run Tuesday–Saturday at 7:00–8:00 and 8:15–9:15. Each visit lasts one hour and ends at the originally scheduled time—even if you arrive late. Family and friends can't visit during an inmate's first 72 hours. Each visit allows two adults and two children under 18. Contact visits work differently: you can't schedule them yourself. They're only considered after the inmate has been incarcerated 30 days and submits a Request for Contact Visit form. If approved, the inmate notifies you of the date and time. Bring a valid passport, military, or state photo ID. Expect metal-detector screening and possible searches. Leave personal items out of the visiting area. Former inmates must wait 30 days and get approval before visiting.

Keep in mind that vendor-managed calls and video may include fees and are often monitored. Check current rates and scheduling through Securus or the facility's information page.

Sending Money

Kennebec County Jail uses Keefe Commissary Network for commissary services. To get a resident's commissary/order ID, call (207) 623-2270 ext. 1111 and ask for the Intake Officer on duty. You can fund a commissary account through online portals, phone payments via approved vendors, mailed money orders, or lobby kiosks where available. When using a vendor deposit option, follow the instructions carefully—enter the resident's identifying number and date of birth so the money posts to the right account. Deposits typically take a few business days to appear and are often non-refundable. Check the facility page or vendor terms for processing and refund details. Posting bail? You must go in person to 115 State Street with the inmate's name, the exact cash bail amount, and cash for the bail commissioner's fee. The bail commissioner will meet you in the lobby to collect payment and complete paperwork.

Facility Info

Kennebec County Jail no longer accepts property drop-offs—this policy changed April 10, 2018, so don't plan to leave items at the facility. During booking, staff complete intake and medical screening and document property. If someone is being committed, they may bring prescription medications in original containers, but narcotics aren't allowed to remain in custody. Initial court appearances happen through the jail's video arraignment system at 1:00 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. You can't view these arraignments from inside the facility. If you need to attend or observe, contact the courthouse broadcast site. Bail commissioners are State employees—they don't work for the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office. The facility's affidavit warns that false statements can be charged under Title 17-A § 453, carrying up to 364 days and a $2,000 fine.
