How to Post Bail at Kennebec County Jail: Step-by-Step

Head to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility at 115 State Street, Augusta, ME 04330. Need to call ahead? The number is (207) 623-2270.

  • The inmate’s name
  • Cash for the exact amount of bail
  • Cash to cover the Bail Commissioner’s fee (separate from the bail amount)

Note: After you arrive, a Correctional Officer will verify the bail amount before the rest of the process moves forward.

The bail commissioner isn't a Sheriff's Office employee - they work for the State. Jail staff can contact the on-call commissioner for you, but they don't control the commissioner's schedule or how fast they arrive.

  1. Arrive at the facility to post bail - Come to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility in person and let staff know you’re there to post bail.
  2. Have the bail amount verified - A Correctional Officer will verify the bail amount.
  3. Wait while staff contact the on-call bail commissioner - After verification, Corrections staff will contact the on-call bail commissioner and let them know you’re in the lobby to post bail.
  4. Meet the bail commissioner in the lobby - The bail commissioner will meet you in the facility lobby to collect the bail money and complete the required documentation.

Once staff verify the bail amount, you'll meet the bail commissioner in the lobby. Hand over the bail money there, and the commissioner will handle the paperwork to complete the process.

Timing is the hardest part to predict. The Sheriff's Department has no control over when the bail commissioner arrives. Staff can share an estimated arrival time once the commissioner provides one - but it's just an estimate.

  • Bring the inmate’s name so staff can verify you’re posting bail for the right person
  • Bring cash for the exact bail amount (not more, not less)
  • Bring extra cash for the Bail Commissioner’s fee
  • If you have it, bring a photo ID - staff may ask you to confirm who you are during check-in
