Can Minors Visit Someone at Kenosha Pretrial? Age and ID Requirements Explained

Bringing a child to visit at Kenosha Pretrial Facility takes some extra planning. Here are the age rules, the exceptions, and what to bring so you don't get turned away at check-in.

The default rule at Kenosha Pretrial Facility is straightforward: visitors must be at least 18 years old. But there are two exceptions. A minor can visit if they're the inmate's spouse, provided they have proper identification and proof of marriage. Minors can also visit if they're the inmate's child, but only when accompanied by the other parent or a legal guardian who stays with them the entire time.

Note: If a child visits under the “inmate’s child” exception, the accompanying parent or legal guardian must keep the child under direct supervision the whole time.

For on-site video visitation, Kenosha Pretrial limits each scheduled visit to one adult and one minor. Show up with two adults or multiple children, and staff will enforce the limit. Extra visitors won't be allowed in for that time slot.

Minors can't attend on-site video visits alone. A parent or guardian must accompany them. If you're bringing the inmate's child, this aligns with the facility's requirement that the child be directly supervised by the other parent or a legal guardian throughout the visit.

ID and Docs

  • A valid ID for every adult visitor
  • If you are visiting as the inmate’s spouse and you are under 18, proof of the marriage (along with proper identification)
  • If you are bringing the inmate’s child, paperwork that supports your role as the other parent or legal guardian (bring what you have so check-in is smoother)

Reminder: Every adult must have a valid ID for check-in. If you cannot present it, the visit can be denied.

  1. Plan to stay hands-on with supervision - You are responsible for your child during the visit, and the facility requires direct supervision when an inmate’s child is visiting.
  2. Expect screening at the door - All visitors are subject to search, so build a little extra time into your arrival.
  3. Bring relationship and guardianship documents - If you are the other parent or a legal guardian, having documentation with you can prevent delays.
  4. Arrive early for check-in - Between ID checks and the entry process (including searches), arriving early helps you avoid missing your scheduled visit.

Everyone entering the facility should expect to be searched. Plan around holiday closures too. Kenosha Pretrial doesn't offer on-site visitation on New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, or New Year's Eve.

Tip: Before scheduling an on-site video visit with a minor, confirm you have only one adult and one minor attending, and that the minor is coming with a parent or guardian.
