Trust Account vs. Pin Debit Account at Kenosha Pretrial: Which Should You Use?
Send money to the wrong account and your loved one might not be able to use it the way you intended. Here's how Trust, Pin Debit, and AdvancePay work at Kenosha Pretrial for commissary, phone calls, and tablet services.
At Kenosha Pretrial, the Trust account is tied to commissary. Money in Trust can be used to order snacks, beverages, hygiene products, and other everyday items. If your main goal is helping them buy basics from commissary, Trust is the right choice.
Trust funds aren't "use it or lose it" either. Any unused balance gets returned to the inmate at release.
Pin Debit works differently. Funds deposited here allow an inmate to make phone calls. If staying in touch by phone is the priority, this is the account to fund.
Pin Debit also covers tablet services. Want to support tablet-based features? This is the account that pays for those.
AdvancePay is another phone option, but it works differently. It's a prepaid collect-calling account. When you fund it, the inmate can call the specific phone number linked to that AdvancePay account.
Tip: You can set up multiple AdvancePay accounts, for example if you want calls directed to different phone numbers or you have inmates in separate facilities.
If money lands in Trust but your loved one needs it for calls or tablet services, there's a workaround. Inmates can transfer funds from their Trust account to their Pin Debit account.
That transfer only works one direction. Inmates cannot move funds from Pin Debit back into Trust, so choose carefully when sending money in.
Whichever account ends up holding the balance, keep this in mind: any unused funds get returned to the inmate at release.
Practical Guidance Choose Account
- ✓ If you want to cover commissary (snacks, beverages, hygiene items), send funds to the Trust account.
- ✓ If you want to help them make phone calls, send funds to the Pin Debit account.
- ✓ If you want to help pay for services on their inmate tablet, send funds to the Pin Debit account.
- ✓ If you want calls to go to a specific phone number you control, fund an AdvancePay prepaid collect-calling account tied to that number.
Heads up: Funds can be moved from Trust to Pin Debit, but not from Pin Debit back to Trust. Any unused funds are returned to the inmate at release, so it’s worth picking the account that matches what you want the money used for.
Coordinating with multiple family members or juggling more than one situation? You can set up multiple AdvancePay accounts, including for different facilities or to direct calls to different phone numbers.
