Visiting Kent County Jail: What to Wear and What Not to Bring

Kent County Jail enforces visitation rules strictly. Break them, and you can be removed immediately - or lose visitation privileges entirely. Take two minutes before you leave home to double-check your outfit and empty your pockets. Most people who get turned away could have avoided it with a quick once-over.

Once you're in the visitation area, follow the posted conduct rules. Staff can remove you immediately for violations, and you may lose future visitation privileges. Stay seated during your visit - standing up or moving around can be treated as a violation, even if you didn't mean anything by it.

1. Stay calm and step aside - If you’re denied or stopped for a rule issue, keep your voice level; arguing can escalate things quickly.
2. Ask what rule you’re being denied for - Knowing the specific issue helps you fix it (for example, clothing or a prohibited item) so it doesn’t happen again.
3. Request a supervisor if you think there’s a misunderstanding - Since rule violations can lead to removal and/or loss of visitation privileges, it’s reasonable to ask for clarification.
4. Make a plan to try again - If you can’t visit that day, correct the issue and come back another time so you don’t risk further problems.
