What You Can Mail to an Inmate at Kerr County Jail: Allowed Items, Prohibitions, and Where to Send It
Mailing something to someone at Kerr County Jail? The rules are strict, and there are two different addresses depending on what you're sending. Use the checklists below to avoid rejected or delayed mail.
Not allowed: Don’t mail or deliver envelopes or stamps to Kerr County Jail. Those items will be rejected.
Not allowed: Pens, pencils, and paper cannot be sent by mail or delivery.
Not allowed (with one exception): Books are prohibited unless shipped directly from a distributor or bookstore - and only softcover books are accepted. Magazines and newspapers aren't allowed at all.
Not allowed: Polaroid pictures are not accepted by mail or delivery.
Not allowed: Do not send cash, clothing, tobacco, or personal hygiene products by mail or delivery. If you’re trying to add funds, use a money order instead of cash.
Kerr County Jail makes one exception for books: the book must be softcover (paperback) and shipped directly from the distributor or bookstore. Don't buy a book yourself and re-mail it. Hardcovers won't be accepted. Before placing an order, confirm the seller will ship directly to the jail in the inmate's name.
For regular correspondence, use this mailing format: Inmate Name SO# Kerr County Jail PO Box 591 Longview, TX 75606
Required: Your return address must be on the envelope when you write to an inmate.
Mailing a money order for commissary? Use a different address: Kerr County Inmate Commissary Inmate Name 400 Clearwater Paseo Kerrville, TX 78028
Timing matters: Money orders must be received before 12:00 noon on Monday to be included in Tuesday’s commissary order.
Never mail cash. It won't be accepted. Use a money order instead - it'll be deposited into the inmate's commissary funds.
A common mistake: mixing up the two addresses. Inmate correspondence goes to a PO Box in Longview, Texas. Money orders for commissary go to a street address in Kerrville, Texas. Before sending anything - especially funds - double-check you're using the right one.
- Decide what you’re sending - use the correspondence address for letters; use the commissary address for money orders.
- Address letters the way the jail lists it - include the inmate’s name and SO#, and mail to: Kerr County Jail, PO Box 591, Longview, TX 75606.
- Put your return address on the envelope - mail without a return address doesn’t meet the jail’s correspondence requirement.
- Mail money orders to the commissary address early - send to 400 Clearwater Paseo, Kerrville, TX 78028, and make sure it arrives before 12:00 noon Monday for Tuesday’s commissary order.
- Call the jail if you’re unsure - a quick confirmation can save you from a rejected letter or a misdirected money order.
