KMCI visiting hours and the Jan 25, 2025 visit limits: what families need to know

As of January 25, 2025, general population inmates at KMCI can receive up to three in-person visits per week. Only one of those can fall on a weekend - Saturday or Sunday, not both. The visit week runs Monday through Sunday. Check with your loved one before making the trip to confirm he hasn't already hit his limit.

KMCI also caps visits at one per day. You can't stack two visits on the same day, even if you're trying to squeeze them into a packed week. Plan for one visit, then pick a different day if you want to use another slot.

Weekday visiting hours at KMCI run 2:30–8:30 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. There are no visits on Tuesday, so if you’re arranging time off work or coordinating rides, plan around that closed day.

Weekday visits are first-come, first-served. Hours run until 8:30 pm, but the last visitor must enter by 7:00 pm. Arriving close to 7:00 pm is risky - if lines or screening take longer than expected, you could miss entry entirely.

Weekday visits max out at three hours. If you enter later in the evening, you still can't exceed that limit - and you won't be able to make up time past closing.

Weekend and holiday visiting hours are 8:15 am–3:30 pm on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. Visits are first-come, first-served, and the last visitor must enter by 2:00 pm. Treat 2:00 pm as your hard deadline for getting through the door.

Weekend and holiday visits max out at two hours. If you're deciding between a weekday or weekend visit, this shorter time limit is the biggest difference to weigh.

Visitors Children

• ✓ Minor children do not count toward the six-adult limit.

Bringing kids? Plan to supervise them the entire visit. KMCI notes that limited children's activities may be available, but expect to keep children with you and under control throughout.
