Weekday vs. weekend visits at Kettle Moraine: hours, length, and what to expect
Weekday and weekend schedules at KMCI aren't just different hours — they also have different entry cutoffs and visit lengths. Here's what you need to know to plan your trip and avoid losing your chance to visit.
Weekday in-person visits at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution (KMCI) run Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No visits on Tuesday. It's first-come, first-served, so arriving early improves your chances of getting in. One important detail: the last visitor must enter by 7:00 p.m., even though visiting continues until 8:30 p.m.
Weekday visits can last up to 3 hours. But your actual time depends on when you get through the door - arrive close to the 7:00 p.m. cutoff and you won't get the full three hours.
Scheduling limit: KMCI allows one in-person visit per day per inmate, so coordinate with your loved one before you make the trip.
Weekend and holiday visits run Saturday, Sunday, and holidays from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Same deal - first-come, first-served. The key difference: you must enter by 2:00 p.m. Don't plan on showing up mid-afternoon and expect to get processed in.
Weekend and holiday visits are shorter - 2 hours max, compared to 3 hours on weekdays. If you're traveling a long distance, that shorter window might make a weekday visit worth considering instead.
Weekend rule: Only one weekend day visit (Saturday OR Sunday) is allowed per inmate during the Monday–Sunday visit week.

General Population inmates can receive up to three (3) in-person visits per week (effective January 25, 2025). The visit week runs Monday through Sunday. The one-visit-per-day rule still applies - your loved one can't stack multiple visits into a single day, even if they have visits remaining for the week. There's also a weekend restriction: only one of those three weekly visits can fall on Saturday or Sunday.
- Aim to arrive early - visits are first-come, first-served, and once the visiting area fills up you can be turned away.
- Plan around the last-entry time - on weekdays the final visitor(s) must enter by 7:00 p.m.; on weekends and holidays the cutoff is 2:00 p.m.
