When Can You Visit at Kettle Moraine? Hours, Days, Final Entry Times and Visit Lengths
Planning a visit is much easier when you know exactly what window you're working with. Here are the current in-person visiting hours at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution (KMCI), along with final entry cutoffs and maximum visit lengths.
Weekday visits at KMCI run from 2:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Plan for an afternoon-to-evening window.
No Tuesday visits: KMCI does not hold weekday visits on Tuesday, so don’t plan a trip for that day.
Weekday visits are first-come, first-served. There's no reserved spot just because you show up during visiting hours - arriving earlier gives you a better chance of getting in without a long wait.
Weekend and holiday visits run from 8:15 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. If weekdays don't fit your schedule, this morning-to-afternoon block is your main option.
Final entry cutoff (weekends/holidays): The final visitor(s) must enter by 2:00 pm.
Visits on weekends and holidays max out at 2 hours. Since the last entry is 2:00 pm, arriving late can cut into your time. Get through the door earlier if you want the full two hours.
On weekdays, the final entry is 7:00 pm. Visiting hours continue until 8:30 pm, but you won't be able to start a visit if you arrive after that cutoff.
Weekday visits can last up to 3 hours. That maximum has to fit within the 2:30 pm to 8:30 pm window, so the later you arrive - especially as you approach the 7:00 pm cutoff - the shorter your actual visit may be.
Planning Tips
- ✓ If you’re visiting on a weekend or holiday (8:15 am–3:30 pm), plan to arrive well before the 2:00 pm final-entry cutoff so you don’t miss your chance to get in.
- ✓ Remember weekends/holidays have a 2-hour maximum visit length, so arriving earlier helps you use more of your available time.
- ✓ For weekday visits (2:30 pm–8:30 pm, Monday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday), don’t cut it close - final entry is 7:00 pm.
- ✓ Weekday visits are first-come, first-served, so earlier arrival can matter.
- ✓ Weekday visits may be up to 3 hours, but your start time determines how much of that you can actually use.
Before you make the trip, confirm with the person you're visiting that they can have a visit that day. A last-minute denial means wasted driving and waiting - especially frustrating given the set visiting windows and time limits (up to 3 hours on weekdays, up to 2 hours on weekends and holidays).
Plan your travel around the final-entry rules: 2:00 pm on weekends and holidays, 7:00 pm on weekdays. Build in extra time so a traffic delay doesn't turn into a missed visit.
