Topic Overviews

Visitation

Lake County Jail only allows visits from people on an inmate's approved visitors list. You'll need a valid photo ID to enter—the jail lists accepted IDs on its website. Plan your timing carefully: check in at least 30 minutes before the visiting period ends so staff can process you. Visitation hours follow the facility's normal hours of operation, and GettingOut posts additional scheduling details and updates. Like most Indiana facilities, you'll need to register and get approved before visiting. The jail runs background and warrant checks on applicants. Visits may be in-person or by video at the facility. For video visits, sign in early and test your device to make sure it meets the technical requirements.

You can also leave a voicemail for an inmate through Telmate—up to three minutes for $1.25. Inmates can buy phone time through commissary, and friends and family can set up prepaid or Friends & Family accounts through Telmate by phone or online. One thing to watch: accounts become inactive after 180 days without use. For refunds, contact customer service at 1-866-516-0115.
