How to Register a Phone Number to Receive Calls from an Inmate (What to Expect)
If your loved one is in TDCJ custody, you can't just start taking their calls—you have to enroll your phone number first. Here's what registration involves and who to contact if you hit a snag.
To receive calls from a TDCJ inmate, your phone number must be registered through the Texas Inmate Telephone Friends & Family Enrollment. Without enrollment, the system blocks calls to your number - even if the inmate is otherwise cleared to make calls.
Before you start, grab the inmate's TDCJ ID number. You'll need it to complete registration, and missing this step is the most common reason people get stuck.
Don't know the TDCJ ID number? Look it up using the online inmate search, or call (936) 295-6371 or (800) 535-0283. Getting this first makes everything else easier.
You'll register online through the Texas Inmate Telephone Friends & Family Enrollment. Once your number is enrolled, you're set to receive calls from the inmate - assuming the number meets system requirements.
- ✓ You must confirm you are the registered owner of the telephone number.
- ✓ You must agree to allow the inmate to call the telephone number.
- ✓ You must be at least 18 years old.
- ✓ Use the name that matches the telephone listing or bill (it should reflect the name on your driver license or state ID).
Need help with registration? Call Inmate Technology at (866) 806-7804. Lines are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If your loved one is at Lamb County Jail and you want to confirm local procedures, call the jail directly at 806-385-7900. The address is 1200 East Waylon, Littlefield, TX 79339.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Make sure you’re registering a number you actually “own” (the registered owner is what the enrollment requires).
- ✓ Check that the name you use matches the telephone listing or bill (it should match the name on your driver license or state ID).
- ✓ Be ready to confirm you’re allowing the inmate to call this number, and that you’re 18 or older.
- ✓ Avoid call forwarding and three-way calling on any calls you receive from the inmate (these can cause problems with calls).
Tip: Get the inmate's TDCJ ID number before starting enrollment. Use the online inmate search or call (936) 295-6371 or (800) 535-0283.
If registration still isn't working, call Inmate Technology at (866) 806-7804 (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Need to file a complaint about the Inmate Telephone System?
