How to Schedule and Check In for a Visit at Lancaster County Prison
Visiting someone at Lancaster County Prison requires advance planning. Call ahead, arrive early, and you'll avoid losing your spot.
You must call the day before you want to visit - walk-ins aren't allowed. Don't show up hoping for an opening; you won't get one.
Once you've secured a time slot, arrive 15 minutes early. Check-in takes a few minutes, and cutting it close puts your visit at risk.

- Pick a time block - choose the visitation slot you can make.
- Call the day before - schedule the visit in advance; that call is required.
- Double-check your ID details - you’ll need a current government-issued photo ID, and the address on your ID has to match what’s on the incarcerated person’s visitation list.
No walk-ins: Lancaster County Prison requires you to call the day before. Skip this step and you'll be turned away at the door.
Arrive at least 15 minutes early. You'll line up outside on the ramp entrance and enter one at a time - the only exception is during bad weather.
At check-in, staff will verify your ID. Bring a current, government-issued photo ID, and make sure the address on it matches what's on the inmate's visitation list. A mismatch can end your visit before it begins.
Security screening: You'll pass through a metal detector. You get two tries - no exceptions.
- If you’re running late, assume your visit may be shortened or lost - you’re required to arrive 15 minutes early to check in, so getting there at the start time (or after) puts your slot at risk.
- If you don’t clear the metal detector, use your two attempts wisely - remove anything that could be setting it off and try again; after two opportunities, expect the visit to be denied because there are no exceptions.
- If you forgot your ID (or the address doesn’t match), don’t expect an override - a current government-issued photo ID is required, and the address must match the inmate’s visitation list, so you’ll likely need to come back with the correct ID information in place.
