How to Send Money to Facility
Sending money to someone at Lancaster County Prison usually comes down to three options: an in-person kiosk, an online deposit, or mailing a money order or certified check. The details matter, because deposits can be applied to fees before they're available for commissary.
There's a kiosk in the LCP vestibule where you can add money to someone's account. It accepts cash, credit, or debit. Just know that a service fee applies, so the total cost will be more than the deposit amount itself.
You can also deposit money online through JailATM™. This is often the easiest option if you can't get to the building in person, though a service fee applies here too.
Prefer to send funds by mail? Lancaster County Prison accepts money orders or certified checks only. Include the incarcerated individual's name and identification number on the money order or certified check, then mail it to: Lancaster County Prison, Attn: Inmate Accounts, 625 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.
Note: Money added through Securus Technologies is for phone calls, eMessaging stamps, and tablet media. It cannot be used for commissary.
Don't assume deposited money goes straight to commissary. At Lancaster County Prison, incoming funds are applied to outstanding fees first. Excluding medical fees, 100% of a deposit is credited to outstanding fees before anything reaches the spendable balance. Medical fees are collected at 50% of incoming deposited funds. On top of that, every newly incarcerated or re-incarcerated individual is charged a $35 processing fee upon commitment. Financial privileges (including commissary use) aren't available until that fee is paid in full.
If there's money left on the account at the end of their stay, what happens depends on the next step. Upon release, the individual receives a debit card with the remaining balance. If they're transferred to another institution, a check for the remaining funds is sent to that facility.
Steps to Follow
- ✓ Decide how you want to deposit: the kiosk in the LCP vestibule (cash, credit, or debit), online through JailATM™, or by mailing a money order or certified check.
- ✓ If you mail funds, use a money order or certified check only, and include the incarcerated individual’s name and identification number.
- ✓ Mail money orders or certified checks to: Lancaster County Prison, Attn: Inmate Accounts, 625 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.
- ✓ Do not use Securus deposits if your goal is commissary. Those funds are for phone calls, eMessaging stamps, and tablet media.
- ✓ Keep the $35 processing fee in mind. Commissary and other financial privileges are not available until it is paid in full.
Heads up: Deposited money may go toward outstanding fees before it's available for commissary. Excluding medical fees, 100% of incoming deposits are credited to outstanding fees first. Medical fees are collected at 50% of incoming deposits.
Both the kiosk (in the LCP vestibule) and online deposits through JailATM™ carry a service fee. Before you submit a deposit, confirm the current fee amount and double-check which payment types the kiosk is currently accepting (cash, credit, or debit).
Mailing a money order or certified check? Verify the mailing instructions right before you send it. Include the incarcerated individual's name and identification number, and confirm the address and attention line for Inmate Accounts so your deposit isn't delayed.
If a deposit doesn't seem to be available for commissary, outstanding fees are usually the reason. Confirm how incoming funds are being applied: excluding medical fees, 100% of incoming deposits are credited to outstanding fees, and medical fees are collected at 50% of incoming deposits. Also check on the $35 processing fee, since commissary and other financial privileges aren't available until it's paid in full. Planning around a release or transfer? It helps to know that remaining balances are returned via debit card on release, or by check sent to the receiving institution on transfer.
Adding funds through Securus Technologies? Make sure you understand what that money covers. At Lancaster County Prison, Securus funds are strictly for phone calls, eMessaging stamps, and tablet media. They cannot be used for commissary.
