Visiting Lancaster County Prison with Children: ID and Guardian Documentation Requirements
Children are welcome to visit Lancaster County Prison, but you'll need the right paperwork and adult supervision. Here's what to bring so check-in goes smoothly.
Minors can't visit Lancaster County Prison alone. Every child must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Bring documentation proving guardianship. You don't have to be biologically related to the child - but you do need paperwork showing you're their legal guardian.
Bring a current, government-issued photo ID. Without one, you'll likely be turned away at check-in.
Staff will check that the address on your ID matches the address on the inmate's visitation list. If there's a mismatch, sort it out before your visit - otherwise you could be denied entry.
Warning: If the inmate is being held on sexual charges, visits with minors are not allowed unless the court directs otherwise.
Practical Checklist
- ✓ Documentation of guardianship (if you’re the child’s legal guardian)
- ✓ A current government-issued photo ID for the accompanying adult
- ✓ Make sure the address on your photo ID matches the address on the inmate’s visitation list
- ✓ Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled visitation time to check in
Expect to line up outside on the ramp entrance and enter one at a time. The only exception is during bad weather.
