Before your first visit to Larch Corrections: what to bring and what to leave at home
Your first visit goes a lot smoother when you show up with the right ID, confirm you're on the approved list, and expect screening at the door. Use the sections below as a quick bring/leave guide before heading to Larch Corrections.
Anyone 18 or older needs a valid, current photo ID at check-in. A driver's license or state-issued ID works fine - just make sure it's not expired. International visitors should bring a passport.
Video visits: Even if you’re not going in person, you still have to be on the incarcerated person’s approved visitor list and set up a Securus account to use video visitation.
Expect to be searched when you arrive. Under DOC policy, everyone entering for visitation goes through screening. It can feel strict the first time, but it's standard procedure to keep the visiting area safe and secure.
Practical
- ✓ A valid, current photo ID (18+), or a passport if you’re an international visitor
- ✓ Any visit approval confirmation details you have available (so you can quickly verify you’re cleared to visit)
- ✓ The basics you may need to reference at check-in (your contact information, and the incarcerated person’s details you normally use for visiting)
- ✓ Extra time and patience for entry screening - everyone is subject to search at the facility
- ✓ A plan to travel light - what you’re allowed to bring in can depend on the facility’s current visitor guidelines
Don't make the drive until you know you're approved. You'll need to submit a visitor application and get it approved before you can be placed on the incarcerated person's Approved Visitor List. Build in lead time. Applications are processed in the order they're received, and it can take up to 45 business days - longer if additional review is needed. If you're planning travel, this timeline matters. Approval is what unlocks visiting in the first place.
Before you leave home: Visiting hours and facility-specific visitor guidelines (including video visit hours) are set by each prison, so check Larch Corrections’ visitor guidelines before you travel.
If an in-person trip isn't possible, video visitation can work as a backup - but there are still gatekeeping steps. You must be on the incarcerated person's approved visitor list, and you'll need to set up a Securus account before you can schedule or join a video visit.
- Check your ID first - If you’re 18 or older, you need a valid, current photo ID at check-in (international visitors need a passport). An expired ID can stop your visit immediately.
- Confirm you’re on the Approved Visitor List - You can’t visit until your visitor application has been approved and you’ve been added to the incarcerated person’s list.
- Consider capacity and timing - In-person visits run first-come, first-served, and if the visit room is full, visitors can be turned away. If you arrived later in the session, coming earlier next time can help.
