Do You Need Approval to Receive Phone Calls from Larch Corrections? PINs, Monitoring, and What’s Allowed
No. At Larch Corrections, friends and family don't need to complete any application or verification process to receive phone calls from someone who's incarcerated.
Every incarcerated individual at Larch is assigned a Personal Identification Number (PIN). They enter this PIN to start each call, and it's what authorizes the connection. Because the PIN is tied to them, they're responsible for all calls placed with it.
Want to add money for calls? You don't need to know their PIN to fund their phone account. The PIN is only used by them to place calls, not by you to make a payment.
Reminder: Custom call features are not allowed. That includes things like 3-way calling and call forwarding.
Assume that regular calls are monitored or recorded. Larch Corrections uses a monitoring and recording system to support security, safety, and orderly operations. The main exception is legal calls: unmonitored legal phone calls are provided to telephone numbers recognized by the applicable state's bar association.
- Write down the call details - note the date and time of the call (or attempted call), what number it came from, and what happened (dropped call, message saying the call is blocked, unexpected charges, etc.).
- Confirm who placed the call - the incarcerated person has to enter their PIN to initiate calls, and they are responsible for calls made using that PIN. If something seems off, ask them directly whether they placed that call.
- Ask for help with the right context - since you do not need an approval process to receive calls, focus your questions on the call attempt itself and the account involved. When you contact the facility or the phone service provider, share your notes so they can look up the correct call record.
- ✓ Confirm with your loved one whether the call was made using their assigned PIN (they are responsible for calls made using that PIN).
- ✓ If you are troubleshooting billing or balance issues, remember you can fund their phone account without knowing their PIN.
- ✓ Gather any payment confirmation details you have (receipt emails, transaction dates, amounts) so support can match your funding activity to the right account.
- ✓ Use the facility’s official resources or the phone provider’s account paperwork to find the correct customer support contact information.
Note: Because calls are generally monitored or recorded, be careful about what you discuss on the phone. If you are documenting a problem, keep your notes factual and focused on what happened during the call.
