How to Qualify for Free Hygiene Supplies at Lawrence County Jail
If your loved one can't afford commissary, Lawrence County Jail offers a weekly indigent pack with basic hygiene items and writing supplies. The catch? They need to meet the jail's specific eligibility rules and request it during the regular commissary window.
Lawrence County Jail uses two checks to determine indigent status. First, the inmate can't have placed a regular commissary order of $4.50 or more in the past 21 days. Second, their account balance must be under $4.50 at 8:00 p.m. on the last ordering day of the week. That 8:00 p.m. cutoff is strict - if they have $4.50 or more at that moment, they won't qualify for the indigent pack that week.
Commissary privileges suspended? That doesn't automatically disqualify someone from getting an indigent pack. As long as they meet the same eligibility rules - the 21-day order history and account balance check - they can still receive one.
Note: During normal weeks, commissary ordering runs from 12:00 a.m. Tuesday through lights out Wednesday, and the indigent eligibility check ties to the last ordering day.
Qualifying isn't enough - the inmate has to actively request the indigent pack. They place the order through the kiosk during regular commissary ordering days, just like a normal commissary order. It won't show up automatically. They need to submit the request during the ordering window.
Reminder: During normal weeks, ordering is open from 12:00 a.m. Tuesday through lights out Wednesday. Ordering days can change during holiday weeks.

Indigent packs arrive with regular commissary deliveries. At Lawrence County Jail, that's Friday - though holiday weeks may shift the schedule.
- Confirm they placed the order on the kiosk - The indigent pack has to be ordered during regular order days, just like a normal commissary order.
- If Friday comes and it still doesn’t arrive, report it through the facility’s commissary process - Since deliveries run on Friday (with holiday exceptions), a missing pack after delivery day should be flagged to commissary staff following jail procedure.
