Understanding Commissary Ordering at Lawrence County Jail — schedule, limits, cancellations, refunds
Commissary makes a real difference in day-to-day comfort. Knowing when to order, how much you can spend, and what happens with cancellations or refunds keeps things simple. Here's how it works at Lawrence County Jail.
The commissary ordering window opens at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday and closes at lights out on Wednesday. Orders arrive Friday. Think of it as: order Tuesday/Wednesday, get it Friday. Holiday weeks can shift things around, but the jail posts advance notice when that happens.
You get one commissary order per week, capped at $80 plus the order fee. That limit covers hygiene items, snacks, and any available clothing - so plan your cart before submitting.
One helpful exception: Crocs don’t count against the weekly $80 spending limit. If you’re trying to stay under the cap but still need footwear, that exemption can free up money for other necessities.
Inmates on the jail's diabetic customer list face restrictions on certain food items. The system may block those items even if there's money in the account. Have backup choices ready when building the order.
Note: Orders can't be changed after submission. Double-check quantities, sizes, and your total before you hit submit.
- Decide to cancel before the deadline - Your cancellation request has to be submitted no later than 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
- Submit the correct request - Send a request to “Cancel Commissary Order.”
- Use the exact subject line - Put only “Cancel Order” as the subject.
- Leave the comments blank - Do not include notes in the comments area.
- Watch for the timing and confirmation - Commissary checks the “Cancel Commissary Order” account each Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., completes cancellations by 7:00 p.m., and replies to each request with only “Order Cancelled.”
Run into a problem while ordering? Submit a "Request" to "Commissary – Melissa" before 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. The earlier you report it, the better chance it gets resolved before the window closes.
Refunds depend on what happens at delivery. Once the ticket is signed and the inmate walks away, all sales are final. Check everything - including shoe and clothing sizes - before signing. Exchanges, replacements, or refunds only happen if the issue is noted on the ticket right then. Changed your mind? You can refuse up to two items at delivery and get a refund for those. Refuse more than two items (or the whole order), and you'll receive credit instead - plus commissary ordering gets suspended for two weeks.
When a refund is approved - whether items were refused or the order returned to the warehouse after release - it processes within two business days. Released before delivery? Pay attention to how the release funds were handled. If the balance went to a debit card, the commissary refund won't appear on a mailed check unless a Release Authorization Form was completed in Booking.
- ✓ Complete a Release Authorization Form in Booking if the inmate prefers a mailed check instead of a debit card.
- ✓ Know the mailing schedule - Release checks are processed and mailed each Tuesday.
- ✓ Plan for the fee - There is a $2.00 check fee.
- ✓ If released before commissary delivery, don’t skip the form - If the balance was transferred to a debit card, that order’s refund won’t be included on the mailed check unless the Release Authorization Form is completed in Booking.
