Do You Qualify for an Indigent Pack? Lawrence County Jail's Commissary Assistance Rules
If your loved one at Lawrence County Jail is short on funds, there's a weekly
At Lawrence County Jail, “indigent” status for commissary is a two-part test, and both parts have to be true. First, the person in custody must not have received a regular commissary order of $4.50 or more in the last 21 days. Second, they must also have less than $4.50 in their account at 8:00 p.m. on the last day of ordering for the week. If either condition isn’t met - if they’ve had a $4.50+ order within the last 21 days, or if their balance hits $4.50 or more at the 8:00 p.m. check - they won’t qualify as indigent for that week’s pack.
Note: The numbers matter here: $4.50, 21 days, and the 8:00 p.m. account-balance check on the last ordering day for the week.
Even if your loved one qualifies, the pack isn’t automatically issued - they still have to order it. Lawrence County Jail requires eligible people to place the indigent pack order during regular order days using the kiosk, the same way they would for a regular commissary order. The normal weekly ordering window opens at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday and closes at lights out Wednesday, so that’s the window to use the kiosk to submit the indigent pack request.
- Check the indigent rules - Confirm they have not received a regular commissary order of $4.50 or more in the last 21 days and will not have $4.50 or more in their account at 8:00 p.m. on the last ordering day of the week.
- Use the regular ordering window - Ordering runs from 12:00 a.m. Tuesday through lights out Wednesday.
- Place the indigent pack on the kiosk - The order is placed on the kiosk during regular order days, just like a standard commissary order.

If commissary privileges are suspended, the options narrow. In that situation, a person can only order an indigent pack if they qualify under the indigent guidelines. If they don’t qualify for indigent supplies, they won’t be able to place a commissary order at all, and they’ll need to request hygiene items from jail staff instead.
