If your loved one is in Lawrence County Jail and their account stays empty, the indigent pack helps them get basic hygiene items and supplies to write home. The catch? They need to meet the jail's specific eligibility rules and place the order correctly.
Lawrence County Jail uses a two-part test for indigent status. First, the person in custody can't have placed a regular commissary order of $4.50 or more in the last 21 days. Second, their account balance must be under $4.50 at 8:00 p.m. on the last ordering day of the week. Both conditions have to be true, not just one.
- Confirm they meet the indigent guidelines - They must have gone 21 days without receiving a regular commissary order of $4.50 or more, and their account must be under $4.50 at 8:00 p.m. on the last ordering day for the week.
- Place the indigent pack order on regular order days - The person in custody has to submit the indigent pack request using the kiosk.
- Submit it the same way as a regular commissary order - The indigent pack is ordered through the kiosk like any other commissary order, it is just a different option.
Note: The indigent pack isn't automatic. Your loved one still needs to place the order on the kiosk during the regular ordering window.

The two stamped envelopes and two sheets of paper are especially valuable. They give your loved one a way to send mail even when their account is empty.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Have them place the indigent pack order on the kiosk during regular order days (it is their responsibility to submit it).
- ✓ Watch the 21-day lookback: if they received a regular commissary order of $4.50 or more within the last 21 days, they will not qualify as indigent.
- ✓ Watch the weekly balance cutoff: if their account is $4.50 or more at 8:00 p.m. on the last day of ordering for the week, they will not qualify for that week.
Warning: Being just over the line blocks the pack for that week. A recent order at $4.50 or more, or an account balance at $4.50 or more at the 8:00 p.m. cutoff, disqualifies them from indigent status.
