What to Expect During Searches When You Arrive at Lawton Community Corrections Center
Search procedures can feel intimidating on your first visit. Here's what Lawton Community Corrections Center staff are allowed to search when you arrive, and what happens if you refuse.
Searches are a normal part of visiting Lawton Community Corrections Center. Every visitor gets a pat search before entering. If this is your first time, knowing what to expect makes check-in less stressful.
Anything you carry in can be searched: bags, purses, boxes, all of it. Staff will look through your belongings before letting you proceed. Bring only what you actually need for the visit. Less stuff means a faster, smoother check-in.
Your vehicle is also subject to search once you enter facility grounds. This includes your car, truck, and everything inside. What's in your vehicle matters just as much as what you're carrying in your hands.
- ✓ Your person (pat search before visitation)
- ✓ Bags, purses, boxes, and other items you carry
- ✓ Vehicles entering the grounds, plus anything inside them
Strip searches are not part of standard check-in. At Lawton Community Corrections Center, a visitor may only be asked to submit to a strip search when the warden (or designee) determines there is probable cause to believe that visitor has contraband. This is reserved for situations where facility leadership has a serious, specific reason for a more intrusive search.
Note: If a strip search is conducted, it will be done by two trained staff members of the same gender as the visitor.
Refusing a required search has real consequences. You won't be allowed entry, and a refusal can result in being denied future visits altogether. Decide whether you're comfortable with the search requirements before making the trip.
Keep things simple. Since you'll be pat searched and any bags can be inspected, leave unnecessary items at home. Apply the same thinking to your car: clean out clutter and avoid bringing anything that could raise questions or slow you down at the gate.
- ✓ Expect a pat search before visitation
- ✓ Bring as little as possible, since bags, purses, and boxes are subject to search
- ✓ Keep your vehicle tidy and free of unnecessary items, since vehicles and their contents can be searched on the grounds
- ✓ Decide in advance whether you can comply with searches, refusal can mean being turned away and losing future access
