Why You Absolutely Cannot Bring a Cell Phone (or Other Electronic Communication Devices) into Lawton Community Corrections Center

Under Oklahoma law, knowingly bringing a cell phone or any electronic device capable of sending or receiving communication into a secure area of a jail or state penal institution is a felony. The penalty: up to 2 years in prison, a fine up to $2,500, or both. Lawton Community Corrections Center doesn't treat this as a minor slip-up - because legally, it isn't one.

Note: When you visit Lawton Community Corrections Center, you’re expected to follow ODOC visitation rules - and those rules are enforced alongside Oklahoma law while you’re on facility property.

Expect to be searched. Everyone entering the facility perimeter gets at least a pat search - no exceptions. Doesn't matter if you're "just running in" or "only there for a minute."

Your pockets aren't the only thing getting checked. Bags, purses, boxes - anything you carry onto the property is subject to search. Same goes for vehicles and everything inside them. If you shouldn't have it with you, leave it somewhere else entirely.

Heads up: If you refuse to allow a required search, you will be denied entry - and you may be denied future access to the facility.

Why You Absolutely Cannot Bring a Cell Phone (or Other Electronic Communication Devices) into Lawton Community Corrections Center

Here's the bottom line: bringing a phone or other electronic communication device into a secure area can land you with felony charges - not just a canceled visit. If you're trying to support someone inside, treat electronic devices as completely off-limits. Plan your visit so you're never tempted to carry one where it doesn't belong.

  • Follow all ODOC visitation rules outlined in the visitation policy when visiting Lawton Community Corrections Center.
  • If you’re 18 or older, bring photo identification to visit.
  • Submit a Visitor Application Form before you try to visit.
  • If you use a paper application, mail it to ODOC headquarters addressed to the Visitation Unit (not to the inmate): Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Attn: Visitation Unit, P.O. Box 11400, Oklahoma City, OK 73136-0400.
  • Expect a background check if you’re 18 or older; approval can take up to eight weeks, and the inmate will be notified when the process is complete.

Even ignoring the felony risk, refusing a search creates an immediate problem: you'll be turned away at the gate. The facility can also deny you future access, which means one bad decision could cost you visitation privileges long-term.
