How to Register to Visit Someone at Leath Correctional: Online vs. Paper Applications
Starting June 1, 2025, adults 18 and older with a valid South Carolina driver's license can register online. If that's you, the online option saves time and skips the paperwork.
When Paper
- ✓ You’re an adult without a South Carolina ID/driver’s license (for example, you use a passport or a U.S. visa)
- ✓ You’re an adult with an out-of-state driver’s license
- ✓ You don’t have computer access or you’re having technical difficulties using a computer
- ✓ You’re applying for a minor child (paper is required, along with documentation that verifies the relationship)
Paper applications are still required when standard ID checks can't run through the online system or when extra verification is needed. This includes adults using non–South Carolina identification, people applying from out of state, anyone without reliable computer access, and all minors (who need relationship documentation).
Mail paper applications to: Division of Visitation and I/M DT, P.O. Box 212969, Columbia, S.C., 29221-2969. Double-check that you've included all required documents before sealing the envelope - especially for minor children, where paperwork verifies the relationship.
- ✓ Include the completed paper visitation application
- ✓ Include the appropriate documentation based on your situation (for example, an ID copy for adults who aren’t using a SC driver’s license, or a birth certificate/relationship documentation for minors)
- ✓ Use correct postage so your application doesn’t get returned
- ✓ Put accurate contact information on the form so the Visitation office can follow up if anything is missing
