Virtual Visits with Someone at Leath: Setup, Rules, Costs, and Troubleshooting
Virtual visits are one of the easiest ways to stay connected with someone at Leath, but a few small details can stop a visit before it starts. Here's how to set up your account, schedule within the allowed window, follow the location and conduct rules, and get help fast if something goes wrong.
You must be on the inmate's approved visitation list before you can request a virtual visit at Leath. Once approved, head to scdoc.gtlvisitme.com/app and create your virtual visitation account. Do this before you try to request a visit. Time slots fill up, and you don't want to be setting up an account while the slot you need disappears.
Every person who wants to join the visit needs their own account, even if you plan to sit together on the same screen. When entering your information, use the exact name on the approved visitation list. Nicknames can cause problems because your account name has to match what the facility has on file.
Name not matching, or need a list update? Email VirtualVisitation@doc.sc.gov with your information and a copy of your ID, or call (803) 896-1838, press #1, and leave your name and a good callback number.
Virtual visits have a tight scheduling window. You must book at least three days in advance but no more than seven days out. Try to book too early or too late, and you may not be able to lock in a slot.
Plans change. If you need to modify your visit, do it at least two days in advance. Cancellations must be made at least one day in advance. These cutoffs are firm, so handle any changes as soon as you know about them.
Be fully set up 15 minutes before your visit start time. Signing in early gives you a chance to confirm your audio and video are working so you don't miss the beginning of the appointment.

Locations and Conduct
- ✓ Do not join a virtual visit from a bedroom
- ✓ Do not join a virtual visit from a bathroom
- ✓ Do not join a virtual visit from a nightclub
- ✓ Avoid other similar venues/locations that would be considered prohibited
Be aware: All virtual visits are recorded and can be reviewed. If inappropriate behavior occurs, the visit can be ended immediately. The visitor may be suspended or permanently removed from virtual visitation privileges, and the inmate can face disciplinary action under SCDC Policy OP-22.14.
Up to four approved visitors can join a virtual visit. Approved minor children count toward that four-person maximum, so plan your group size before you schedule.
You do not need SCDC Form 19-118 (Authorization for Adult Supervision of a Minor) for virtual visits. That form is only required for in-person visits at the institution.
Pricing has been published two different ways, so confirm the current rate before you book. The Virtual Visitation FAQ lists a flat rate of $10 for a 50-minute virtual visit. A later memo dated Feb. 1, 2025 says the rate changes to $0.16 per minute, billed based on actual visit length. Under that structure, a 50-minute visit drops from $10 to $8 while still using 50-minute scheduling time slots.
