What You Can and Cannot Bring to Leath Correctional Institution (visitor checklist)

Leave anything that communicates wirelessly in your car. Phones, fitness trackers, smartwatches: none of them are allowed inside. SCDC has banned all wireless devices from its institutions since February 1, 2016.

All SCDC facilities are tobacco-free. Since January 1, 2008, tobacco and tobacco-related products have been classified as contraband on agency property. Leave cigarettes, vapes, and any related items locked in your vehicle before heading inside.

Expect to be searched when you arrive. All visitors age 18 and older entering Level II and Level III institutions must submit to a pat/frisk search on top of standard screening procedures.

Vending Payment Rules

• ✓ Use Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express for visitation vending machines
• ✓ Do not bring a prepaid debit card. Prepaid cards are not accepted and may not be brought into the institution
• ✓ Bring only one debit/credit card per visiting group
• ✓ Make sure the debit/credit card has the cardholder name printed on it, and that name matches your ID

Two rules trip people up most: the "one card per visiting group" limit and the name requirement. If the card doesn't have a name pre-printed on it, or the name doesn't match the visitor's ID, staff won't allow it inside the institution.

1. Leave all wireless devices behind. Do not bring any personal wireless communication device, including fitness trackers and smartwatches.
2. Keep tobacco products in your vehicle. SCDC is tobacco-free, and tobacco products are prohibited on agency property.
3. Pick one card for your whole group. Only one debit/credit card may be brought in per visiting group for vending machines.
4. Match your card to your ID. The card must have your name printed on it, and the printed name must match your ID.
