How to Add or Change Names on an Inmate’s Visitors List at Leblanc Unit (and Appeal Removals)
Getting added back to a loved one's visiting list—or changing who's approved—means working within two constraints: a strict size limit and a set timeline for changes. If you've been removed, there's also an appeal process with a tight deadline.
At Leblanc Unit, an inmate's approved Visitors List can include up to 10 people. The list includes identifying contact information for each person - phone numbers, physical addresses - that the inmate wants approved for visits during authorized hours.
For institutional inmates, names can only be added or removed from the Visitors List once every six months. Plan ahead before submitting a change, especially if the list is already near the 10-name limit.
For inmates in a state jail, Intermediate Sanction Facility (ISF), or Substance Abuse Felony Punishment (SAFP) setting, the window is shorter: list updates are allowed once every 60 days. Still limited, but on a faster cycle than the six-month schedule.
Been removed from an inmate's Visitors List? You can submit a written appeal to the Director's Review Committee (DRC). This is the formal way to request a review of the removal decision. It's time-sensitive, so start preparing your appeal right away.
- ✓ Submit your appeal in writing to the Director’s Review Committee (DRC).
- ✓ Mail it to: Director’s Review Committee (DRC), PO Box 99, Huntsville, TX 77342.
- ✓ Get it in within 14 days of the date on the written notice of removal from the unit.
- Confirm your loved one is at Leblanc and allowed visits - Before you try to coordinate any list change or make a trip, verify the inmate’s assignment and that they have visitation privileges.
- Call the unit before you travel - Schedules and access can change; a quick call helps confirm the unit visitation schedule and whether visitation has been canceled.
- Plan around the 10-name maximum - Since the Visitors List can only hold 10 people, additions may require removing someone else first.
- Know which change window applies - Institutional inmates can change the list once every six months; state jail/ISF/SAFP inmates can change it once every 60 days. Timing matters if you’re trying to be added soon (or re-added).
Note: Call Leblanc Unit for final confirmation of the inmate’s assignment, visitation privileges, and the unit visitation schedule before you travel.
