Sending Mail to Someone at Leblanc Unit: Understanding TDCJ’s Digital Mail System
If your loved one is at the Leblanc Unit, here's the biggest change you need to know: most personal mail no longer goes directly to the unit. Instead, it's sent to a TDCJ digital processing center, scanned, and delivered digitally.
As of September 6, 2023, TDCJ moved all units - including Leblanc - to a digital mail platform. Everyday letters from family and friends now route through a central processing center, where they're scanned before reaching your loved one.
Once scanned, mail gets delivered through the digital system. If your loved one has a tablet, they'll see it there. No tablet? They'll still get the correspondence - just printed out in black and white.
For personal mail going through the Digital Processing Center, use this exact format. Be sure to include both the inmate's full name and their TDCJ number: Texas Department of Criminal Justice Inmate's Full First and Last Name + TDCJ Number PO Box 660400 Dallas, TX 75266-0400
Note: The TDCJ number is essential. Leave it off, and your mail may be delayed or fail to match properly during scanning.
Exceptions
- ✓ Legal mail - send directly to the unit (not the Dallas processing center).
- ✓ Media mail - send directly to the unit.
- ✓ Books, magazines, packages, and other subscriptions from verified vendors or publishers - send directly to the unit.
No tablet? Don't let that stop you from writing. Mail sent through the digital system still reaches your loved one - they'll just receive black-and-white printed copies instead of viewing it on a device.
- Write the address exactly (with the TDCJ number) - For scanned personal mail, use the Dallas PO Box and include the inmate’s full first/last name plus their TDCJ number.
- Set expectations for how it’s delivered - Since the September 6, 2023 transition, TDCJ routes most personal mail through the digital platform instead of sending it straight to the unit.
Note: Not sure whether something should go to the processing center or directly to the unit? Call ahead before mailing. If you're planning a visit, confirm the details by phone and bring a valid photo ID for check-in.
