What You’re Allowed to Bring (and Not Bring) When Visiting Leblanc Unit — Visitor Checklist

Before you leave home, confirm the person you're visiting is actually assigned to Leblanc Unit and currently has visitation privileges. That quick check can save you a long drive for nothing. You'll also want to verify you're on the approved visitor list. Not sure? Call the unit to find out. One more step: call for final confirmation before you travel. Schedules and visitation status can change without notice, and a quick phone call beats arriving on a day when visits aren't happening.

What You’re Allowed to Bring (and Not Bring) When Visiting Leblanc Unit — Visitor Checklist

Bring a valid photo ID. You'll need photo identification to visit at Leblanc Unit - without it, your visit ends at the front desk. Not sure if your ID will work? Check the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) list of appropriate photo identification types before you go. Better to swap it out ahead of time than find out at check-in.

Money Valuables

  • Bring coins only if you need money during the visit - no more than $35 total.
  • Leave cash (bills) at home or secured in your vehicle - it’s not allowed.
  • Leave your cell phone out of the secure perimeter (don’t carry it inside).

Expect screening when you arrive. Visitors and vehicles are subject to search, so the simplest approach is to show up with as little as possible. Keep your car and pockets clean of anything you shouldn't have. Before heading out, check your outfit against the TDCJ visitation dress guidelines. If your clothing doesn't comply, staff can deny your visit - even if you did everything else right.

Note: If there's any doubt - whether you're approved, whether the person is still housed at Leblanc Unit, or whether visitation is happening - call the unit before you travel.
