How to Get on an Inmate's Visitation List at Lee County Jail

Getting on an inmate's visitation list at Lee County Jail comes down to one thing: the inmate has to add you. Here's how the list works and how to confirm you're approved before making the trip.

At Lee County Jail, inmates fill out a visitation list before they're housed in general population. That list controls who's allowed to visit. Think of it as a gatekeeping step: if your name isn't on it, you can be turned away, even if you're immediate family.

Lee County Jail allows each inmate to designate up to five people as unofficial visitors, and that includes minors. If you're coordinating visits as a family, that five-person cap matters. The inmate may need to choose who gets listed. Minors can be included, but the jail won't allow anyone under 17 into the facility unless they're with a guardian. So even if a child is on the list, plan for an adult guardian to attend the visit too.

Note: Minors can be listed as visitors, but anyone under 17 must be accompanied by a guardian to enter the facility.

Lee County Jail only allows visits from people the inmate has put on their list. You can't show up and hope they'll let you in, and you shouldn't assume you're listed just because you're a spouse, parent, or close relative. If you're not sure whether you were added, sort that out before you drive over. Getting confirmation first can save you a wasted trip and the frustration of being turned away at the door.

  • Ask the inmate to confirm whether your full name is on their visitation list.
  • If you are not listed, have the inmate add you (only listed people may visit).
  • If you are bringing a minor, make sure a guardian will accompany them into the facility.
  1. Have the inmate confirm your status If your name is not on their list, you will not be allowed to visit.
  2. Ask the inmate to add you if needed Only the inmate’s approved list controls who can visit, so the fix starts on their side.
  3. Contact the jail for help if you have questions If you need clarification about the Jail Division or the visitation list process, use the jail’s listed phone or email contacts.

Contact: For Jail Division questions, email Jail Admin Josh Ramirez at jramirez@co.lee.tx.us or Lt. Hentschel at hentschel@co.lee.tx.us, or call (979) 542-2800.

If you're denied entry because you're not on the visitation list, the quickest fix is to have the inmate add you, then plan to come back once that update is in place. Staff at the jail can't waive the rule. Not sure what to do next, or think there may be a mistake? Contact the Jail Division using the phone number or emails listed above and ask what steps apply to your situation.

  • Bring an acceptable photo ID: a current driver’s license with photo, a state-issued photo ID card, a military ID, or a passport.
  • Do not show up without photo ID. No visitor will be allowed without an acceptable photo ID.
  • Leave purses and coats out of the visitation area (do not bring them in).
