Can You Send Books or Packages to Someone at Leon County Jail? Alternatives and E-Books
No - Leon County Detention Facility does not accept packages or physical books for inmates. That includes items sent by private citizens as well as shipments from Amazon, USPS, or other delivery services. If you try to send books or a package anyway, it will be returned to the sender.
There are a couple of narrow exceptions, but the facility is strict about how items arrive. Magazine and newspaper subscriptions are only accepted when mailed directly from the publisher. Religious or spiritual materials follow the same rule - publisher-direct only, no third-party vendors (including Amazon). These items must be mailed to the Chaplains Office for approval: Leon County Detention Facility, Care of Chaplains Office, Post Office Box 2278, Tallahassee, Florida 32316. Address the package with the inmate's legal name and SPN number.
- ✓ Magazines: up to two (2)
- ✓ Newspapers/newsletters: up to two (2)
- ✓ Religious or spiritual materials: up to two (2)
Want to get reading material to someone inside? The facility's alternative to physical books is e-books. Inmates can access books in electronic form through their assigned Securus tablet.
Note: The Securus tablet catalog includes over 50,000 e-books available free of charge.
These tablets also change how personal mail works. Non-privileged correspondence sent to the Securus Digital Mail Center gets scanned and delivered electronically to the inmate's tablet. If someone hasn't been issued a tablet, their mail is printed and delivered to them instead.
- Skip packages and physical books - Leon County Detention Facility doesn’t accept them from private senders or delivery services, and they’ll be returned.
- Use publisher-direct subscriptions for reading material - magazines and newspapers/newsletters are only accepted when they come straight from the publisher.
- Lean on the Securus tablet for books - instead of mailing books, encourage your loved one to use the e-book library on their assigned tablet.
Tip: For magazines and religious/spiritual materials, “publisher-direct” is the key - third-party vendors (like Amazon) won’t be accepted, and religious items must go through the Chaplains Office for approval.
