Leon County Jail In-Person Visits: Hours, rules, and what to expect

In-person visitation at the Leon County Detention Facility reopened on Monday, February 26, 2024. Daytime visits start at 8:30 a.m., with the last daytime visit beginning at 4:00 p.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. Evening visits run from 5:30 p.m., with the last visit starting at 7:00 p.m. and wrapping up at 7:30 p.m. Pay attention to those "last visit starts at" times. The facility uses these cutoffs so visits finish before lockdown and shift change. Show up too close to the deadline, and you might lose visit time - or miss your window entirely.

Plan around the last-start time: Aim to be checked in and ready to begin before 4:00 p.m. (daytime) or 7:00 p.m. (evening) so your visit can run its full window and end by 4:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.

You get 30 minutes per visit, and you can only see one incarcerated person per day. No splitting time between people - if you need to visit more than one person, plan separate trips.

Make the 30 minutes count: Pick the one person you’re visiting that day, and build in extra time so you’re not rushing through check-in and screening.

  • Be at least 16 years old.
  • Bring valid identification for check-in.

You'll go through a metal detector before being admitted. If something you're wearing or carrying triggers the detector, you'll need to remove it - or you won't get in.

Quick screening tip: Remove belts, jewelry, and other metal accessories before you step through. These are the most common reasons the detector goes off.

All visits - video or in-person - are monitored and recorded. Assume everything you say and do can be reviewed later. Stick to safe, appropriate topics and skip anything you wouldn't want replayed.

Before you go: Policies can change. In-person visits reopened February 26, 2024, so I'd recommend verifying the current monitoring and recording rules with the facility before your visit.
