Where to Send Mail to Leon County Jail — Personal Mail vs. Legal Mail
Leon County Jail uses two different mailing addresses depending on what you're sending. Personal mail goes to a Securus mail center in Tampa. Legal mail goes directly to the facility's PO Box in Tallahassee.
For personal mail, send your letter to the Securus Digital Mail Center in Tampa. Address it to the inmate's full legal name and SPN number: c/o Securus Digital Mail Center – Leon County, PO Box 21947, Tampa, FL 33622-1947.
Warning: Personal mail sent anywhere other than the Securus Digital Mail Center will be returned to you.
When your letter arrives at the Securus Digital Mail Center, staff scan it and send it electronically to the inmate's tablet. Your recipient reads a digital copy, not the original paper.
No tablet? The facility prints the scanned letter and delivers it instead. Either way, personal mail still has to go through the Securus Digital Mail Center first.
Legal mail skips the scanning process and goes directly to the jail. Address it to the inmate's full legal name and SPN number at Post Office Box 2278, Tallahassee, FL 32316.
Note: Mark the envelope clearly as legal mail so staff handle it as privileged correspondence.
- Staff open the legal mail in the inmate’s presence - this is how the facility handles delivery of legal/privileged correspondence.
- The contents are photocopied - the mail is copied after it’s opened.
- The inmate receives the copies - the photocopies are provided to the inmate.
- The original is resealed - after copying, the original legal mail is sealed back up.
- The sealed original goes into the Property Unit - the original is placed in the inmate’s property in the Property Unit.
