Mail Rules Checklist for Sending Letters and Photos to Lewis and Clark County Jail
Want your letter or photo to actually reach someone at Lewis and Clark County Jail? Run through this checklist before you seal the envelope.
Addressing ID
- ✓ Write the inmate’s full name on the envelope
- ✓ Include the Sheriff’s Office/booking/identifying number
- ✓ Add your full return address (mail needs a return address to be accepted)
Stick to standard letter size. Lewis and Clark County Jail only processes mail that fits within 8.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall. Oversized paper, custom cards, or anything beyond those dimensions won't make it through. Resize and print on regular letter paper before mailing.
Page limit: Keep it to 5 pages or fewer. Anything over 5 pages won't be scanned for the inmate and will be returned to you.
All mail is scanned front side only. Anything written on the back of a page won't be captured during processing. Write your message on the front of each sheet and leave the backs blank so nothing gets lost.
Photos: Only 1 photo per mailing is allowed. Include more than one, and the entire letter (plus everything inside) gets returned. Nothing will be scanned or delivered to the inmate.
Don't send magazines, newspapers, bulk mail, or books to the PO Box processing location. Those items will be returned. If you want to send publications or books, mail them directly to the facility where the inmate is housed, following the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office mail guidelines.
