The New Mail System at Lewis and Clark County Jail (What Changed July 1, 2023)
As of July 1, 2023, Lewis and Clark County Jail changed how inmate mail is handled. All mail except legal and medical correspondence now goes to a central processing address: PO Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606.
Regular mail goes to PO Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606 for processing. Legal and medical mail are the exceptions. Those must be sent directly to the Lewis and Clark County Detention Center at 221 Breckenridge Ave, Helena, MT 59601, not to the Texas PO Box.
Mail sent to the Longview PO Box doesn't get delivered the traditional way. It's scanned at the processing center and forwarded electronically through the facility's messaging system. Your loved one reads the scanned version on kiosks or tablets in their living area, not the original paper letter.
Warning: Once mail is processed and delivered electronically, the physical copy is destroyed. It will not be returned or released.
Practical Steps
- ✓ Mail regular inmate letters to: PO Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606.
- ✓ Send legal and medical mail to: Lewis and Clark County Detention Center, 221 Breckenridge Ave, Helena, MT 59601.
- ✓ Include a return address on what you send.
- ✓ Do not mail magazines, newspapers, bulk mail, or books to the Longview PO Box.
The Longview processing PO Box does not accept magazines, newspapers, bulk mail, or books. If you send those items to PO Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606, they'll be returned to sender. Send publications and books directly to the facility instead, and keep legal and medical mail routed to 221 Breckenridge Ave, Helena, MT 59601.
Tip: Double-check the address before you drop anything in the mailbox. Regular letters go to PO Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606. Magazines, newspapers, bulk mail, and books should not be sent to that PO Box.
