Visitation is open on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. That said, visiting pauses during set meal periods, so plan your arrival around the blackout windows listed below.

  • Visitation stops for meals from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Visitation stops for meals from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Each inmate is allowed one visit per day, and visits are limited to 20 minutes. Don't count on being able to visit twice in the same day. The second visit won't be allowed.

Special or extended visits aren't allowed unless the Detention Captain or a Sergeant grants approval. If you think your situation calls for extra time, get that approval squared away before you show up expecting a longer or out-of-schedule visit.

Bring picture ID. Lewis and Clark County Detention Center requires it at check-in, and you can be denied entry without it.

You must be 18 or older to visit. The one exception: immediate family members under 18 can visit if they're accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

  1. Use the visitor’s complete name so staff can identify exactly who is being requested.
  2. Include the visitor’s address for each person the inmate intends to have visit.
  3. Add the visitor’s date of birth for everyone listed on the request.

Denial and Bans

  • Showing up intoxicated
  • Being disrespectful
  • Acting unruly

Quick tip: Show up sober and keep things respectful. That goes a long way toward avoiding being turned away or banned from future visits.
