Visiting Someone at Lewis and Clark County Detention Center: What You Need to Know

Before you can visit, the person in custody has to submit a visitation request form with your information. The form needs your complete name, address, and date of birth - same goes for anyone else they want on their visitor list. Missing or incomplete info slows down approval, so make sure they have your details exactly as they appear on your ID.

Normal visitation runs Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. That's a wide window if you're traveling or juggling work and childcare. Just plan around the daily meal breaks when visits pause.

Plan around meal stoppages: On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, visitation stops for meals from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Visits are short. Each inmate gets one in-person visit per day, capped at 20 minutes - so timing matters.

  • Bring picture identification for check-in.
  • Visitors must be 18 or older.
  • Visitors under 18 may visit only if they are immediate family and are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Allowed-items-and-deposits

  • A full book of stamps
  • Medication
  • Cash

You can't hand cash directly to the person you're visiting. Instead, deposit it at the kiosk in the public lobby - it'll be credited to their commissary account. The kiosk accepts both cash and credit cards. Fees may apply, so check the current amount before you go if you're working with a specific total.

  1. Make sure you’re on the request form - the inmate’s visitation request form must list your complete name, address, and date of birth.
  2. Bring your picture ID - you’ll need it at check-in.
  3. Time your arrival to avoid meal breaks - on weekends and holidays, don’t plan to visit during 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.; visitation stops during those windows.
