The Two Mail Addresses for Lewis County Jail: Which One Do You Use?

Lewis County Jail has two mailing addresses, and picking the wrong one can delay your mail. Regular personal correspondence goes to a PO Box in Seminole, Florida for processing. Legal mail, money orders, and a few other exceptions ship directly to the jail in Chehalis, Washington.

The Seminole, FL PO Box handles everyday mail - postcards, letters, greeting cards, that kind of thing. Unless your item falls into one of the exception categories below, this is the address to use.

  • Inmate’s full name
  • Inmate ID number
  • Lewis County Jail
  • PO Box 9122
  • Seminole, FL 33775-9122
  • Your full return address (so it doesn’t get stuck or returned)
  • Make sure the name and ID are clearly printed on the outside

Some items skip the Florida PO Box and go straight to the jail. The exceptions include legal mail, money orders, books, court documents, bank statements, and publications. For these, address your mail to 28 SW Chehalis Ave., Chehalis, WA 98532.

  1. Identify what you’re mailing - Regular personal letters/cards go to the Seminole PO Box; legal mail, money orders, books, court documents, bank statements, and publications go to the Chehalis facility.
  2. Write the inmate’s name and ID number clearly - Put both on the outside of the envelope so it can be matched to the right person.
  3. Use the correct destination address - Send exception items to 28 SW Chehalis Ave., Chehalis, WA 98532; send regular correspondence to PO Box 9122, Seminole, FL 33775-9122.

Whichever address you use, print the inmate's full name and ID number clearly on the envelope or postcard. Miss either one, and the jail returns the mail to sender. A quick double-check saves you days of waiting.

  • Inmate full name
  • Inmate ID number
  • Either the Seminole PO Box address (for regular mail) or the Chehalis facility address (for exceptions)
  • Your return address

Mail sent to the Seminole PO Box doesn't stay on paper. The jail scans it into their system, and inmates view it electronically on kiosks. Once processed, the physical mail is destroyed - there's no way to retrieve the original later.

Keep in mind: Regular mail gets scanned and destroyed, so the inmate won't receive the original paper item. And if the name or ID is missing or unclear, the mail comes back to you instead of reaching them.

Got mail returned and want to appeal? You have 10 days. Call 360-740-1344 or email LCJail@lewiscountywa.gov.

  1. Read why it was returned - Use the return markings or any notice included so you know what you’re appealing.
  2. Gather the key details - Have the inmate’s name and ID number ready, and keep a copy/photo of what was returned if you can.
  3. Appeal within 10 days - Call 360-740-1344 or email LCJail@lewiscountywa.gov before the 10-day window closes.
