Setting Up a Virtual Visit with an Inmate at Lieber: Accounts, Devices, and Timing
Virtual visitation at Lieber is straightforward once you have the basics: the right account, your name matching exactly, and a compatible device. Follow these steps to avoid common setup headaches before your visit.
To participate in a virtual visit at Lieber, you’ll start by creating your visitor account through SCDC’s GTL VisitMe virtual visitation system. That account is what you’ll use to request and attend your scheduled visit.
Planning to have multiple people join? Even if everyone's sitting in the same room, each person needs their own virtual visitation account. Set these up ahead of time - sharing a login won't work.
Name match required: Your account name must exactly match the name on the inmate's approved visitation list. No nicknames.
- Email for visitation-list or name-change help - Send your information and a copy of the visitor’s ID to VirtualVisitation@doc.sc.gov.
- Call and leave your details - Call (803) 896-1838, press #1, and leave your name and a good contact number so someone can follow up.
Virtual visits must be scheduled at least three days ahead but no more than seven days out. If you want a specific time slot, don't wait until the last minute - popular times fill up.
Timing tip: All virtual visits start on the hour, so aim for an exact start time like 2:00 (not 2:15).
Each virtual visit costs a flat $10 for 50 minutes. If the visit ends early for any reason, you're still charged the full amount - no partial refunds for unused time.
Check your device before scheduling. Virtual visits work on computers, tablets, and Android phones. iPhones were not compatible as of the published FAQ, so have a backup device ready if that's what you normally use.
