Can You Join Your Loved One's Attorney Call? What Family Members Should Know About Legal Visits at Limestone
Hoping to sit in on your loved one's attorney call at Limestone? The facility's VAV (Virtual Attorney Visitation) rules are clear about who can and can't be present.
No. Limestone does not allow family members or friends to join VAV (virtual attorney) visits. These sessions are limited to legal representatives, legal assistants, and interpreters only.
VAV at Limestone is a Zoom-based option that lets attorneys and their clients have confidential conversations without scheduling an in-person meeting. It doesn't replace face-to-face legal visits, but it can be a faster, more efficient way for your loved one and their attorney to connect when timing matters.
Note: VAV exists to protect attorney-client confidentiality. That's why only legal representatives, legal assistants, and interpreters are allowed to attend. Family and friends cannot join.
Who May Participate
- ✓ Legal representatives (attorneys)
- ✓ Legal assistants
- ✓ Interpreters
- ✓ Attorneys must show appropriate identification before the scheduled virtual meeting (for example, a state bar card or other documentation demonstrating bar membership).
If you're coordinating with an attorney, plan for an ID check as part of the VAV process. Limestone requires the legal representative to show identification before the meeting starts. A bar card from any state works, along with other documentation that demonstrates bar membership.
If your loved one needs language assistance during a legal call, the VAV policy has that covered. The legal representative can bring in outside interpretation services during the virtual session, so your loved one can communicate with counsel in their language. Family members still can't join the call for this purpose.

Warning: Legal representatives and their staff are not allowed to audio or video record any virtual or in-person legal visit, or any call with non-citizens at the facility. Violations can lead to suspension or permanent loss of VAV privileges.

- Leave an urgent message the right way: If you need to leave an urgent message for a detainee, call (254) 729-2674 and leave the detainee’s full name, alien registration number, and your name and telephone number. The detainee will be given your message.
If you just want to talk to your loved one, keep in mind that detainees at Limestone cannot receive incoming calls, so you can't call and be connected directly. The facility does have tablets, and it directs people to JailATM for information on sending non-confidential messages. Treat anything sent that way as non-private communication, since it's not protected like an attorney-client legal visit.
